Preventing Trafficking in Human Beings
Abstract
Trafficking
in human beings has become one of the most high profile and lucrative
criminal activities in the world. However, in sharp contrast to
its profile, little is known about the organisation, logistics or
even the numbers involved in trafficking. In order to counter media
representations of 'mafia' stereotypes this paper will therefore
review the available empirical research for the purpose of providing
a more coherent description of the organisation of trafficking.
Emphasis will be placed on the 'amorphic model' as well as organisational
behaviour which mirrors rational economic strategies employed by
legitimate transnational business
